Oh Geraldine

What can I say? Looking so smug about it too!
Drawing attention to herself again this morning.

The Hairy Chat

Little miss Pink so obviously a long coat, she stood out at a few days old. As did Holly and Ivy in the "I" litter, the Witches Of Eastwick in the "H" litter and all the other LSH pups we've ever had. They are easy to spot. Aren't they?
Enter Biscuits - Bruce
Biscuit and Fudge
Bruce and Orin
Neither of them looking anything like a LSH at 3 weeks.
I giggle now at the memory of all the Facebook posts about him after 3 weeks. He hid till a few days after 3 weeks, then he could hide no more. People were adamant he was not a LSH, others adamant he was ... the sensible ones sat on the fence I think, but only three days after the top photo Steve and I knew that he was a LSH, we just said that we were happy to be proved wrong.
3 weeks and 3 day - Oh we have a LSH
At 8 weeks and further on people were still arguing about his coat variety
... well they can't argue now can they?

Bedding And Feeding

Love this photo of the girls chilling in the toys. Just warmed up my heart. I'm thinking of putting the white vet beds back to bed now, till the next time, when ever that will be. I have plenty of  the check ones, I bought another roll of it so that's not an issue, the issue is I cut it into 6 huge bits so getting it dry is fun .. Thankfully we are keeping the multi fuel stove going 24/7 so the radiators are always hot. It is handy to have two layers, I'm sure there are plenty of the grey ones that will do instead of the white. Vet beds really are the best bedding, unless Nico gets hold of them they last forever.
I'm starting to feel sorry for Kaiah, it's like a rugby scrum in the pen when she goes in to feed them. To be honest she doesn't seem to care though. I'm still trying to get the smaller three on as quickly as I can, but the way the other two wade through moving everything in their path is something else. Saying smaller ones, really they are not that small, it's just Raven and Pink seem a little ahead. At the three week point Bruce (Biscuit) was the largest in the K litter also weighing 3lb 10 oz - so that is even with Robin and Wren. The largest of the bitches in the K litter at the 3 week point was Jazz (Spice) at 3lb 2oz - so Geraldine is heavier. It's all down to the size of the litter isn't it. (The smallest male at that point was Loki Basil at 3lb 2oz and the smallest surviving bitch was Beth at 2lb 9oz) With everyone getting it together to eat now I'm sure they'll level out.
Lovely photo of Bruce in the snow today, Handsome boy.

3 weeks Today

Geraldine and Pink
Geraldine 3lb 6 oz and Pink still flying ahead at 4lb 11 oz

Raven and Robin
Raven, the big man is 4lb 10 oz and Robin a whole pound behind at 3lb 10 oz
Wren
3lb 10 oz
I really think Raven and Pink are still flying ahead because they "got it" with the food straight away. Robin has got it the last 2 days and Wren and Geraldine still need a little help to eat it not wear it!

Still No Registrations

Robin using snake as a bed
It looks like I'm joining the queue of people moaning about the Kennel Club. The registrations for the K litter had a turnaround of about 48 hrs. It's been 2 weeks since I e.mailed the registration application for this litter through to the department, all I've received is an automated e.mail informing me there will be delays. I tried to ring yesterday and got  through to an answering machine message which told me due to the increase in registrations it takes 28 days for the paperwork to come through.... but they haven't even rung me for payment. With Fransisco not having a British Kc number online registrations are not available, so they told me to fill in the paperwork, scan them and send them via e.mail leaving the payment section blank. They would call for payment. Last time they did within hours ... this time not a word! Ok, I knew of the chaos there, so I did it in good time, but the weeks are flying by, here's hoping they get it sorted soon.

In The Fields

Between puppies, lockdown, toothache and weather we haven't been off the property for a walk in over 3 weeks - not what they are use to but we do have 3 acres, so they are not missing out too much!

Lunch Is A Messy Affair

Pink with a belly full crashed out on the pineapple at the back
Wren still wearing his isn't the best at tucking in yet.
Raven and Robin crashed out after all the effort of eating
Geraldine shocked that Raven is still eating, he has his mothers appetite!

And Your Problem Is?

You Luther, you and your bloody time keeping!!!!
Yes he's home and sleeping in the dog bedding!

Here We Go Again

There is no sign of Luther today and I'm a nervous wreck.

The Girls - Again

I kind of gathered Pink wouldn't be backward in coming forward when food came into the equation, but here she is going to help herself to the leftovers in the bowl. She and Raven are without doubt the greedy kids of the litter.
Geraldine with sticky yogurt on her face collapsed after breakfast. As you can see Kaiah's starting to moult now. Why do mums always look awful when puppy buyers want to meet them?

Prices

Right here we go again ... So they live not a million miles away, they use the same dog as me, on a bitch that without any offence to anyone,  I believe is not as good as mine; and they charge double the price. Something is wrong here somewhere, isn't it? Their puppies can't be worth double the price of mine, can they? How can they justify it? Not trying to boast but Kaiah is a quality bitch, mated to a quality dog, without wishing to stand on the moral high ground I guess my principals are higher. I'm shocked at this, but not at the price as it seems to be becoming the norm with  unscrupulous breeders. The last 12 months people have really shown their true colours, so the reason I'm shocked is that this is a dog showing buddy that I thought better of!

Introducing Siska

Well it's one or the other.
Steve doesn't like the name, ah well he'll get use to it, I love it!
I had set my heart on a bitch from Kaiah to continue the Blanik line.
A lot resting on someone's shoulders then ladies

Yogurt Anyone?

I’ve started giving the pups a little Goat’s yogurt today, just a little on my finger to start them thinking about food. After the first initial look of shock they loved it. I’m not rushing to get them on to food with only 5 of them, but best be prepared for all eventualities. I’ll give it a few days then start making up a little porridge with the puppy food and yogurt. Should be fun!
I'm going to stick to Doctor John's puppy food, the previous litter did so well on it, no looseness and everyone loved it. Though puppy Beth took her time, I think she just liked the yogurt too much. It was recommended by GSD people and I have to admit Orin thrived on it, I put him on Titanium at 4 months as they recommend. He looks great and has done throughout. In the past I've used, Beta, Pedigree, Arden Grange, CSJ and Royal Canin, and I think this has been the best I've used. Being as the breed is so prone to panosteitis I really am worried about some of the high protein foods. Seeing Lia and Ross suffer with pano has really made me wary of high protein foods. I know Pano goes away, I know it is a growing pain but it can be quite debilitating and very painful for the affected animals.
 I guess,  If it ain't broke ...

Look It's Us!

Making sure the guys are not feeling left out

2 Weeks Today

Geraldine and Pink
Geraldine - 2 lb 8oz Pink - 3 lb 6 oz
Geraldine looks bigger in the photos, but she honestly isn't, she just more forward in the photo than her LSH sister.  I know she's quite a bit behind, but she's still the same weight as the heavies was at 2 weeks in the large K Litter.

Raven and Robin
Raven - 3 lb 9oz  Robin - 2 lb 14oz
Of course the biggest puppy is not necessarily the biggest adult!
Wren - 2lb 11oz

Changes

Sitting here in the new puppy pen, just looking, just watching as Kaiah feeds her brood. How privileged am I? She trusts me completely to share these moments with her.  I'm overcome with emotion, new life so precious so innocent so special. I promise to look after you all, to do the best I can to put you on the right track in your lives. I promise I've found you the best of homes, but should it not work out, as sometimes through no fault of anyone it just doesn't, know that I'm always here for you, this is always a Blanik's home!
Like Sammi had earlier in the year,  almost to the day Kaiah had started to refuse to go into the box. With Sammi I thought it was the amount of crawling puppies in a tight space. These are bigger pups but there was still space. Anyway it worked for Sammi so we decided to introduce the puppy pen for Kaiah too ... again it worked. I've no idea why, but we go with them, more room for everyone, and since I took the photo the toys have gone in too.

How Sweet

Last nights video 12 days old.
Early play/interaction  .. or at least recognition of each other.
Look how Pink bites Geraldine in the back and Geraldine reacts to it - amazing. Two days previously they just ate and slept!

Eyes And Ears

Puppy Robin wants to demonstrate that all the little ones eyes are open now, though of course their vision is very poor. It takes weeks for a puppy to see properly. Ears will be next, as I've said that fascinates me. Currently I walk in the room and they just sleep, then at around 14 days the first head pops up and there's an expression of confusion. Within no time everyone else can hear too, then there's no sneaking in and out of the room without them noticing. Within a week or so of the ear canals opening the pups hearing is acute.

No Order In The Pack

Kaiah's presence is seriously being missed here. The pack has not lost its way but order has gone out of the window. Ziva has had a personality transplant and continuously plays with Orin, this is not something that would ever happen with Kaiah in the mix. The tension between her and Ziva is similar to Ziva and Tali. I fear we will need careful reintroductions - bitches can be so horrid and Ziva is getting older!
Out in the field Ross is missing Kaiah so much and at first he waits by the caravan for her to come out. When he realises that she's not coming out he focuses his attention on Sammi. But Sammi is not in control, Kaiah is, so left to his own devices Ross bullies Sammi.  Ross is also less patient with Orin and has given him a fair few "telling off." To be fair they were not uncalled-for.
Sammi doesn't seem to want to play with anyone. Maybe she's just still feeling off colour but since the spaying she has lost a spark. I hope it's temporary as I liked the Naughty Angel the way she was. Only Tali really previously changed after neutering, did she change back or did we just get use to a less fiery Tali? Hell I don't know.
In another couple of weeks Kaiah will want to re join the pack for some part of the day, it will be interesting to see how it goes ...

Colours

All dressed and ready to go, now anyone who's interested will know who they are.
Black   - Raven
Red      - Robin
Brown - Wren

Pink  is Pink
White -  Geraldine - as was always the plan
An extra dinner and a wash from mummy

Geraldine

Little Geraldine is starting to lag behind. I've no idea why with so much milk available, but the others are now coming on in leaps and bounds and she's still looks a little small. I did a mid week weigh in and she's now 3oz behind Wren. That gives me a little cause for concern as they were neck and neck on Saturday. I've decided to put the collars on later, and then we can see on the camera if she is missing a feed, or we can both pop her on on her own when there is no one else feeding. Steve is slower in getting to know the individuals, I feel now that it's important he knows them at a glance, especially her.
