Battery Flat!

I guess the people on my friends list on Facebook who are not GSD Enthusiasts will be pleased that I forgot to charge the camera today! Damn - thank God for a smart phone!
Love the way Ross puts his head under water.
This guy is such a character!

Lots To Say ..

Louis - Mr Amazing
It was with great reluctance that I entered The Royal Welsh Dog Show this year. A great show with a fantastic run down to it .. but this year a judge who was not to my likening. She is a breed specialist in Belgian Shepherds and I'd seen her judge GSD's before and was really not impressed. But I think my main reason for taking a dislike to her was that she wrote a critique for Louis and said his head was incorrect, she said his muzzle was too short for his forehead. Well what a load of rubbish, he had a wonderful head and that's not rose tinted glasses as regards to the breed standard he had a very correct head. I later gave the judge another opportunity with Asha and Mikey, she didn't place either and she went onto my list of judges to avoid.
I decided to take Kaiah and Ross for the experience of a loud busy show which of course they took in their stride. Ross was second of two in puppy, I guess the other puppy was nice enough, but having seen her last at her previous shows I did start to wonder why she placed them as she did.  I think her biggest fopar of the day must have been in the junior class when the best dog stood last. I'm not saying this because he belongs to a friend, but he's a super youngster. Bella won PG easily and none of the Open dogs entered, including Loki, had bothered to get out of bed to turn up! LOL. Kaiah was in open bitch, only 2 of the entries present and the other bitch is one I have admired. I was shocked to win the class, not because Kaiah didn't deserve too but because I'd come to the conclusion that with this judge, my face just does not fit!
Kaiah and Bella in the challenge
We then stood in the line to challenge for BOB, Kaiah, Bella, (both Champ show winners) the junior class winner and the puppy class winner. As I stood waiting for the judge I was absolutely horrified to overhear the owner of the second placed bitch in Kaiah's class say .. "Well she didn't deserve to be beaten by that." I stated at the person who had her head looking down toward the people she was chatting too. What the feck? Kaiah is not rubbish, again honestly no rose tinted glasses, Kaiah is a quality young female who can challenge the best of them. I continued to stare at her and it was on the tip of my tongue to say something when the judge walked away from the table and into the center of the ring. I was seething as I stood Kaiah up to challenge. Did she not see me standing there? I thought she was my friend? I was in such a temper but I couldn't let myself down, ring etiquette and all that .. I stayed silent. Predictably the BOB went elsewhere and I stormed out of the ring. I later apologised to the BOB winner and told them why I'd left the ring in such a mood, bless him he'd been so pleased he hadn't noticed!
My friends kept me grounded, and being non confrontational as I am I said nothing. But still seething a while later I told the people she was chatting to that I had heard every word. They said .. "Oh you know what she's like, a bit nuts and rose tinted glasses." Well no actually, I didn't know she was like that and I guess considering her a friend of 5 or so years I was completely taken aback!
On the way home I had a text from her, and another later that evening. The long and short of it was that she said she thought Kaiah should have had BOB, well that added insult to injury. She had either realised I'd heard her, the other people she'd talk to had told her I'd heard, she's seen a post on Facebook and put  two and two together or she's blatantly two faced.
In future my fond memories of this show will far out way the one negative experience and the poor judging. I'll remember sitting under that tree chatting and laughing with my lovely friends, (though some where absent and missed) I'll remember meeting lovely new people who I'm sure will become friends. I'll remember Bella and Marco sitting by the fence wearing their halos, whilst Ross auditioned to be a JCB and Kaiah helped with the removal of branches. I'll laugh as I remember Jackie and Linda getting covered in the evacuated soil .. and how many times did I have to clean Ross down before the class? I'll remember Claire bring Barney .. Sammi's brother to see me, and her fantastic attitude towards her gran daughter and how wonderful all the dogs where with her. I'll remember Sari cuddled on Tish's lap and Tish arriving back wearing her ice cream 5 mins before she was due in the ring. It must be the way to do it eh .. top winner Sari. I'll remember the carpets of bluebells , the May Bug and the stunning Kites ...I'll remember Linda's face as we told her we were not going shopping, and those bikes .. OMG those bikes and Ian's profanities!!! Yeah despite the judging it was a lovely day, such a shame there's always one that tries to spoil it .. thankfully she failed.

A Bit Of Shade

The girls are like me .. they like the weather as long as they can find a bit of shade. Actually there's a bit of a breeze here so I'm finding it quite pleasant. Yesterday and today have been ideal, but I know I'm among a minority who hates hot weather, but personally I can't see what's pleasant about intense heat. I can't for the life of me see how anyone can enjoy working/walking or indeed sitting in it. For me hot days mean prickly heat, profuse sweating, irritability, lethargy and the effects of high pollen. It also poses  a danger to my dogs. Some die from heat exhaustion, Concrete and tar becomes too hot for them to walk on and seeing owners dragging their pets for mid day walks angers me beyond belief. The only walks we'll do is to the lakes or rivers, and then we make sure we go early and that the terrain is suitable for their paws.
Anyway I'll stop my moaning, it's not too hot at the moment, it's pleasant and the scenery is beautiful beyond belief. Tomorrow we're off to Builth, I can imagine it will be a fantastic journey through the heart of rural Wales.

Ross And Kaiah Enjoying Life

Walking At Home

Warm sunshine, just a little breeze and not many people or sheep about. Though I've loved to wonder and explore of late I can't imagine there was anywhere more perfect to walk today than Fron. Apart from my profanities and Ziva shouting at Sammi it was silent .. and just stunningly beautiful.
Steve took this sneaky shot of me taking a photo of Nico and Jezi.
Good yeah!

Wonderful Critiques From NWGSD

Absolutely over the moon with the critiques for the "Blanik" clan from NWGSD. Huge thank you to judge Mike Wildman.
I was very taken with my best dog and bitch 2 that I would like to think could easily gain there titles the bitch for obvious reasons had the edge in maturity and was just totally in tune putting on a flawless performance with the best profile . The best dog being the puppy was so forward and sound for his age loved his outline Long sloping shoulder high wither and capitious side gait he will be one to watch.
Puppy Dog. 3/3 1.Stanleys & Bibbys Silkenwood Poldalk of Blanik Sable, who commanded attention for his overall outline and proportions. Alert lovely head and keen expression, well conditioned and composed for a 10 month baby. Powerful stance without being overdone in anyway. Correct confirmation exhibited in his sound effortless gait he had excellent forehand superb legs strong pasterns with excellent feet was all together for his age So much so he was easily BEST DOG and Best Puppy in Show.
Stanley's Lokean of Blanik Sh.CM Mature 31/2 year old Black and Gold would prefer more of him, correct over and underline with correct length to croup sound when viewing from any angle, effortlessly covered the ground. Nice head proportions, would prefer a darker eye.

2/2 1.Stanleys Blanik Jeevana 17 months bl/gold fluid floating trot had reach and drive with minimal effort . Very sound uncomplicated confirmation, balance and harmony all through. No hard curves or edges, 17 months old alert but steady in character in firm condition, she put on an excellent performance. And was just what I was looking for being Very much the type I consider correct ideal size and strength she looked the part never faltering posed or gaiting Best Bitch, Best In Show 2. George's Marinita Briana of Kymara Close up and unlucky to be outclassed by 1 liked her overall quality and conformation so called in to challenge for RBB unfortunately was a little unsettled and lost to Tuna whose steady gait appealed in the final go around
Stanley's Blanik Ivana Sh.CM bl/Gold of Pleasing size, shape and confirmation had amply substance for a female very sound and moved with plenty of drive. She was in hard condition well-muscled and fit showed a keen expression and was alert at all times.
Stanley's Blanik Georgette litter sister to previous class winner showed with move drive and energy, moderate size balanced angles pleasing topline and croup. Best Veteran in Show.

This Photo

I can't believe the comments on the top photo on Facebook. People think it's amazing.
A fish was jumping about and splashing as I took the photo. Yes it's a lovely photo, I agree, but I like to see the beautiful expression on their faces .. so personally I prefer the bottom one!

Sometimes Human's Disgust me

A place of such wonderful beauty and only man abuses it.
Man is coars, man is plain,
main is more or less insane,
man's a ribald, man's a rake,
man is nature's sole mistake!!!

Ross Found Land

Swimming out to his own island
 Nope he's not following you
King of the castle of "Rossland"
Not sure Kaiah's going to let him back onto the mainland .. haha
On his way back. God this guy is a star.
He's loud and annoying, funny and loving. He brightens up my day just by being Ross!

Bluebells, Ditches And A Lake

Jezi and Nico in the Nursery in Tremadog.
It couldn't have been more perfect there. Spring sunshine, stunning fresh green colours, a carpet of fragrant bluebells, birds singing and even the cuckoo made an appearance. Despite the muddy ditches, always one of my favourite places to walk.
Ross and Kaiah also in the Nursery
I just love bluebells

Knackered After The National

The Loki Man was 3rd in limit, his poorest result in a while really,
but still I shouldn't complain!
 Kaiah sitting pretty with Linda
Little miss was second in Yearling .. not her best performance.
Maybe slightly taking advantage of a different handler!
Mr Ross bald as a coot still managed a second out of 4. That's all his puppy classes done at Champ shows now and he's always been in the top three. Not bad going my precious little noisy box!

To Show Or Not To Show?

That is the question!
Ross Last Saturday
Ross has lost more coat than I thought he had in the first place. He's looking tall, bald and lean, very lean. At a time when dogs moult the only way to keep condition is to slightly increase the amount of food they get, but with Ross being such a picky eater that has been impossible.
So here's the dilema, this will be his last Champ Show in puppy classes, do I put him in and go for it or withdraw him until he gets his condition back later in Junior classes? People never forget when you show a dog in poor condition, even if it's obvious to everyone that the reason for the condition is that dreaded puppy/junior moult. Judges will obviously be aware of his age and that he looks like a tall lanky teenager, but when faced with other dogs of the same age in better condition in the class, what is a judge to do? I like to send my dogs into the ring with at least a fighting chance of winning, or at least getting placed. If they loose they loose but I don't want them to loose because I'm showing them out of condition, but equally I don't want Ross to miss out on his last Champ Show puppy class either! It really is a dilema for me, as a "type" of dog I'm sure he'll appeal to the judge but this condition will be a consideration.
Loki went through a stage like this too, strangely at the same time of year, though Loki was younger. I did show him at a Champ show and the judge put him last but commented that he needed time to fill his frame. By the time Loki was a young Junior he was really getting it together, but
I think it may take Ross a few months to "fill his frame" and get his condition back now. I don't mind taking him to open shows .. but I tend to think only the best, looking their best should represent the breed at champ shows.
I think I'll bath him tomorrow and see if the coat that remains will fluff up a little, well it'll do one of three things, fluff up, lay flat as it is now or completely fall out! Kill or cure eh! As he's a puppy I will probably take him and show him, but he'll have to drastically improve before he's a young Junior or they won't be a trip out to Blackpool Ch. Show!

Asha Update

A couple of lovely photos of her ladyship today. It's 2 weeks now since the cyst burst, it's almost completely closed now and in all fairness she's done quite well and mostly left it alone. I hope that by this time next week there will be nothing left at all and that the hair will start growing back. Though Asha is retired from Open and Champ show competition now I'm sure she'd still love to do a few companion shows over the Summer, as soon as the hair grows back we'll give it a go!

Another Adventure In Rhyd Ddu

 Beautiful View
Lôn Gwyrfai path I think by Llyn Y Gadair

Geese shouting on the lake just at the right time
Kaiah telling Ross off for going off the path.
Now they are both off the path.
