So far he's failed, and been reported for walking him locally "un-muzzled." Kind of felt sorry for him, he loves his dogs. Another person who insisted on throwing the kong for Ross! It can get frustrating as Ross doesn't know where to stop. Anyway I hope he gets the help he needs and that he doesn't chose again to walk into a pack of 4 GSD's who've just come out of the van!</div><p></p>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-37244670575248225412024-03-17T18:21:00.003+00:002024-03-17T18:24:01.945+00:00Last Week <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Km-qmt-GZKjKDAMHFD4W7g8B3dxlb47AiTNE5QdhU30g3_uaZBHKFBsKVVl-DoftUaDg52poMKqKMDdF8tgmxP530NhxW_GnE-nr0l_UAWj_Ugnr6lr-oa1mzwIqzPwVaohRM61zIJCGd1YCZh8DBbGgxOouedixJaOEZLyGIvik15l-7uGQTdZ9fGQ/s1332/20240316_104739.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1332" data-original-width="829" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-Km-qmt-GZKjKDAMHFD4W7g8B3dxlb47AiTNE5QdhU30g3_uaZBHKFBsKVVl-DoftUaDg52poMKqKMDdF8tgmxP530NhxW_GnE-nr0l_UAWj_Ugnr6lr-oa1mzwIqzPwVaohRM61zIJCGd1YCZh8DBbGgxOouedixJaOEZLyGIvik15l-7uGQTdZ9fGQ/w249-h400/20240316_104739.jpg" width="249" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">We've all recovered from Crufts and Beti is living up to her whirlwind reputation. This week I've had to replace a washing basket and a phone charger, and she made confetti with a bag of newspaper that I'd bought in to light the fire. Steve has had to fix a gate ... twice .. and replace part of the water pipe which leads from the bathroom to the sewage pipe. She's got herself trapped between the small pen and the shed, several times and through the gate that she broke made her way behind the big pen .. which could have given her access off the property. (Thankfully, Orin and Siska snitched!) With the gate fixed on Tuesday, today she managed to open it and was off to the same place. In the thick mist I really thought she'd gone .. but her recall is fab and she came flying back as soon as I called her. Then of course there's the bedding .... let's not go there. Teenage puppies are a bloody handful, she's lucky she's so lovely or she'd be back on her way to Monmouth taking Ross with her! lol </div><p></p>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-41858877835182334592024-03-16T18:31:00.004+00:002024-03-16T18:31:48.266+00:00RIP Bella <div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJ-rrR4lKRWDMZwkzuKR1ClO6-36Qr9ybRVO9-kqULofko2Lf0ZBH-aLOVchArsyeN-GnIkcCTzn18628-qb4SXV-_GQxzR9DIRQ9V8zjpAW-0F7WPhV7VvuuuYSZC-wTU4MVNwKtHEiMmmqk3K44gLrz6ceDnMHLVBkATuM6h6-dMXhzoG97xVdlS3s/s1344/20170325_150226.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="971" data-original-width="1344" height="289" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDJ-rrR4lKRWDMZwkzuKR1ClO6-36Qr9ybRVO9-kqULofko2Lf0ZBH-aLOVchArsyeN-GnIkcCTzn18628-qb4SXV-_GQxzR9DIRQ9V8zjpAW-0F7WPhV7VvuuuYSZC-wTU4MVNwKtHEiMmmqk3K44gLrz6ceDnMHLVBkATuM6h6-dMXhzoG97xVdlS3s/w400-h289/20170325_150226.JPG" width="400" /></a></div> Such sad and shocking news that Ian's Bella had to be PTS yesterday. After being off colour for 24 hrs she was taken to the vets where they discovered she had a tumour on her liver. The circumstance are almost identical to Krizzie who we lost with the same diagnosis in 2007. Krizzie was just 7.5 years old and like Bella showed no signs of ill health until the last couple of days. </div><div style="text-align: left;">Bella was Loki's sister, such a lovely girl who bought Ian into the show world, there is no doubt she changed his life and gave us our cofi mate. </div><div style="text-align: left;">RIP now dear Bella, back with your Mummy Tasha and Daddy Nico. </div>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-40687371783362883492024-03-16T17:37:00.000+00:002024-03-16T17:37:05.143+00:00I Put My Phone At Risk <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Beautiful Kaiah, I miss her so much. I don't often share her memories as it's still so raw, but this time with teeth gritted I did. She was just so pretty. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Later in the morning a friend was messaging about her Orin daughter, Lyra .. with fat fingers (her words not mine) she hit K instead of L ... Kyra. Bloody hell I like that, would it be a fitting tribute for a name for Kaiah's granddaughter? Or would it be a little too close for comfort? One thing is for sure ... it's going high on the list. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Kyra, a girl's name of Greek origin, means "lord." This name has a familiar sound, like the names Keira and Ciara, but has a different root. This name might come from the Greek word kurá, which means "lady," or from the name Cyra, the feminine version of the name Cyrus.</div><div style="text-align: center;">On listening to the correct pronunciation of Kyra I've come across Kaila, which I also like. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Kaila is a unique girl's name of mixed origins. In Hawaiian, it translates to "stylish" or "fashionable," and can encourage your little one to express themself in the way that they want.</div>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-51609948642420273452024-03-10T17:46:00.000+00:002024-03-10T17:46:20.140+00:00Blanik At Crufts<div style="text-align: left;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmjEe0CkT7yEhnyANzO04glQsBcEEDC2owqyLtCZiy9iq8v2lLJZBdKJFap617W9tX8413sub7M9gk_tHSftWtUqaiGzdDob0YtLYhKVZ9ZtULylIVfO9RzMsci6g8ApQVJewHQnT7MXX7ljqnvLAxhD4OaY84KbdXUbBoHDuV4PvD2udREe-QkTG8Agg/s1667/20240309_164319-EDIT.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1667" data-original-width="1074" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmjEe0CkT7yEhnyANzO04glQsBcEEDC2owqyLtCZiy9iq8v2lLJZBdKJFap617W9tX8413sub7M9gk_tHSftWtUqaiGzdDob0YtLYhKVZ9ZtULylIVfO9RzMsci6g8ApQVJewHQnT7MXX7ljqnvLAxhD4OaY84KbdXUbBoHDuV4PvD2udREe-QkTG8Agg/w258-h400/20240309_164319-EDIT.jpg" width="258" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;">Super day at Crufts, a huge thank you to all the special people who helped and shared the day with us. I only took the girls. Pinchmill Adira Of Blanik flying the flag on behalf of her sire Blanik Kyriacos (Orin) and mum Toilers Ashla stood alone in MPB but went on to win BPB. We were over the moon. A huge thank you to our breed specialist judge Sharon Bowen (Lararth) for thinking so highly of Beti. Till You Have! <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3vxS8-a0xEmnejhUl8mdD1Zi43LUFq53DTZ6wxQWr66kx7d_hduTiRgin61unSoqXK5JIs-vHepLnWX5KFKnPmvDAIHA_nFZvWFcn2FKIwLP1SObJ7AiZ7nvWz2gH09ILzG6k6ulHo8nzgsjYhT0NAYFAfr8Q1vNLZf6GHgUTWkZMrwn4NDI3MxxqVtA/s1210/cow%20hocked.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1210" data-original-width="952" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3vxS8-a0xEmnejhUl8mdD1Zi43LUFq53DTZ6wxQWr66kx7d_hduTiRgin61unSoqXK5JIs-vHepLnWX5KFKnPmvDAIHA_nFZvWFcn2FKIwLP1SObJ7AiZ7nvWz2gH09ILzG6k6ulHo8nzgsjYhT0NAYFAfr8Q1vNLZf6GHgUTWkZMrwn4NDI3MxxqVtA/s320/cow%20hocked.jpg" width="252" /></a></div></div>Well I may not have bred her, but of course she's half my breeding. Listen, cow hocks at this age are not a huge deal for me, but keeping records of how she was and when may help me or others in future. One of Beti's brother also has the same problem, but as he is also over angulated and his owners took the unwise decision not to let him have free running exercise for fear that he had hip problems, then his issues due to lack of normal muscle development are greater. <div>An animal is cow-hocked when its hock is set inward, resulting in a splayed look in the back legs. A slight amount of cow hocking is common in herding breeds, and while it isn't preferred in the show ring, it doesn't have any obvious detrimental effects on hip health, nor does it necessarily indicate unsound hip. As Gillian explained yesterday it is a muscle imbalance between the internal and external hip rotators, the muscles on the inside of her legs/thighs now need to catch up with the muscles on the outside. I bet if you've seen Beti you haven't even noticed, and she has improved since this photo was taken 5 weeks ago.</div><div>Chatting to a friend last night she said that any breeder who denied having any abnormalities in their litters was lying to himself, and to others. I told her that I wasn't aware of breeding anything with an over angulation problem, ever, but the combination of Orin and Zoe seems to have produced over angulation in the male mentioned and cow hocks. Ian reminded me that Gibson, Yarna's son to Orin was cow hocked too as a youngster, but he isn't now. Katrina thinks in Orin's line that it's coming through from Nico's grandfather, of course Nico himself was a touch over angulated too. With all the best will in the world breeding is not a science and sadly shit can happen with any combination. We do all the health tests required, and more and spend hours trolling through prospective partners to best suit the line as well as the construction of the female. </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLg0rlQkblkVGSULwDrSAHg6_IFBmBLY8cqMs_QY1WTPNerWhIFhRg6GKCLK3cRBNJdvAGfsibtgO1k_6E9u7gpS89EVR4VhMrOMWH2ebkKFXTkplUrihpEOpRM4L4ibQ8zKhwkE4FMLZdX-gn0LCirYy16b9qoQO8ks5jfoOcbEXHC81BB9XEaSP6Bis/s2048/358332657_685425546349763_1682380837656988566_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="923" data-original-width="2048" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLg0rlQkblkVGSULwDrSAHg6_IFBmBLY8cqMs_QY1WTPNerWhIFhRg6GKCLK3cRBNJdvAGfsibtgO1k_6E9u7gpS89EVR4VhMrOMWH2ebkKFXTkplUrihpEOpRM4L4ibQ8zKhwkE4FMLZdX-gn0LCirYy16b9qoQO8ks5jfoOcbEXHC81BB9XEaSP6Bis/s320/358332657_685425546349763_1682380837656988566_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Orin has just the best hindquarters, strong, straight and un-exaggerated. Siska has just a little more length of second thigh, making her look just a little different when viewed from behind. She's not unsound, but maybe not as firm and true as he is. Correct construction is about soundness, the physical ability to do a days work, exaggeration deviates from this ability. Apart from the Merlot line Siska is the same breeding as Orin, therefore with more knowledge than I had a year ago I have more things to consider when choosing a partner for her. So have I changed my mind? Well probably, yes! </div><div>Really I have been lucky, mostly we seem to have a healthy female line here, I don't include Kaiah as the circumstances of her death are different, but we've only lost Krizzie in single figures, all the other girls have been between 11 and 13, with Tali over 13. But I'm not blinkered, to my knowledge I may never have bred a DM affected, an elbow score or even a dog with HD, but until the H litter I'd never bred an animal with AF, and until the K litter I hadn't bred a puppy without the correct intestinal tract either (little Winnie) ... you've never bred it, until you have, and once you have, it's what you do with the knowledge that matters. Let's face it, overdone is exaggeration, and I firmly believe that is detrimental to the dog. Therefore, when choosing breeding partners thrive for moderation in all aspects, look further than the dog that stands in front of you, look at the generations that came before them and what they have produce. We'll never get it 100% right, but for the sake of the puppies that we are privileged to bring into this world, let's do the bloody best we can. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOFiY3y9rBoCwA4-PFY3OzSDbAo4P3CTlMQYG_Z9Pq84B2NkfGuQSIETpOKDC-t6cLfoeZtVDxqsPYT_XlfNpYSF0Wo0T24ojBXgv3Yv9QbBKfWivWPlux7C143zEXWbO1ocY8-sn5PWqDttsppf7nwKjCsQH770vVAC-xD0VLL_6Sk69s5B667X3-oA/s576/angulation.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="354" data-original-width="576" height="327" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxOFiY3y9rBoCwA4-PFY3OzSDbAo4P3CTlMQYG_Z9Pq84B2NkfGuQSIETpOKDC-t6cLfoeZtVDxqsPYT_XlfNpYSF0Wo0T24ojBXgv3Yv9QbBKfWivWPlux7C143zEXWbO1ocY8-sn5PWqDttsppf7nwKjCsQH770vVAC-xD0VLL_6Sk69s5B667X3-oA/w531-h327/angulation.jpg" width="531" /></a></div><div><br /></div>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-28901066800690409872024-03-06T17:32:00.002+00:002024-03-06T17:32:29.697+00:00Exercises For Beti<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiRTeAe-xqee1VVd14tWo_YvNqipE4yLEWwsqk_nC8GtgwvwBuC7CyYc84H1inHDVeD1oDqRarxn-qG-oS99-a0LqslUuVTqnCNpuS6IIsCQXIxjrpYYZ0qaot-xMQ6xGZAOn_VMxpBxo7M2cDpmm8akW_Ca-7aIfIW8r7SPQlxegh7EJbV6WkXnimEkM/s3008/20240305_201108.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3008" data-original-width="1805" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiRTeAe-xqee1VVd14tWo_YvNqipE4yLEWwsqk_nC8GtgwvwBuC7CyYc84H1inHDVeD1oDqRarxn-qG-oS99-a0LqslUuVTqnCNpuS6IIsCQXIxjrpYYZ0qaot-xMQ6xGZAOn_VMxpBxo7M2cDpmm8akW_Ca-7aIfIW8r7SPQlxegh7EJbV6WkXnimEkM/s320/20240305_201108.jpg" width="192" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">Little Miss B in one of her favourite places. Names starting with "M" for the next litter and also pet names. In my mind Siska's daughter was going to be registered as Blanik Miss Otis and pet name was going to be Oti. Now that can't happen, Oti and Beti sound too similar and could cause confusion in the home and my stepson has called his cat Otis, so I can't really add the "S" to my female either. Of course, I can and probably still will use the registered name, but now my pet name needs a rethink. <div>For a while I've been thinking of using another Welsh pet name, and I love Mali, with a translation that means “jasmine flower," it's also listed as Welsh for Molly. It wasn't until this week that I thought about the complication that could come up in the dog world as the breed Malinois is mostly shortened to Mali. I must admit, it's put me off now. </div><div>The other night I heard another name that caught my attention, "Yinka." Not one I know, but I quite like it, and I really don't like using names that are too popular. The meaning of Yinka is "Surrounded' - by wealth, by God, by good things" and is of Nigerian origin. My hesitation with this name again comes from the risk of it becoming confusing Siska - Yinka. </div><div>Also on my pet name list are Neev or Neeva, Kinsi, Nella and Nera. Mila is still there, but I made the mistake of telling someone that it was my original choice of name for Siska, and when they got a puppy, well I bet you can guess what the called her! lol </div><div>Anyway I'm constantly looking and thinking, an easy name to call that doesn't sound too similar to any current pack or cat name. Of course not a name that is popular or if it's Welsh not a name that will be mispronounced in English ... one thing I have learned though is that I often change my mind, over and over again. </div>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-52454738979846989052024-03-04T18:18:00.005+00:002024-03-04T18:18:40.288+00:00Archie ...<p></p><div style="text-align: center;"> .. wants to say thank you to Auntie Carrie for his new bed. </div><div style="text-align: center;">He looks very comfy!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsUFWm33MwWjGshS8TaQG9hwvAezjaUUR0-SPIPPpobnovaNdAOAh0F8xYiFmslbcFkzNJ7BVIIRifRYiMRKRaEFfTwBBh5gGc-X8wE-oiKcNkdkPN5xv-NGS1SrT4uWchnUv8RAbSQBNNwjExHLYaTj6YZOyNB8inkSsSpXJRfQRtQgRcw1blH86IZ9I/s2841/20240304_120012.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1737" data-original-width="2841" height="245" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsUFWm33MwWjGshS8TaQG9hwvAezjaUUR0-SPIPPpobnovaNdAOAh0F8xYiFmslbcFkzNJ7BVIIRifRYiMRKRaEFfTwBBh5gGc-X8wE-oiKcNkdkPN5xv-NGS1SrT4uWchnUv8RAbSQBNNwjExHLYaTj6YZOyNB8inkSsSpXJRfQRtQgRcw1blH86IZ9I/w400-h245/20240304_120012.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><p></p>Talihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09428645926027726731noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6811635762825555710.post-20368224821001449182024-03-04T18:05:00.006+00:002024-03-04T18:19:40.471+00:00Oddball <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_566FpblNAf3W7S88L-DJstwN7zhh4V-28Ca0H8_pnc0_-jy_fM5x9kiP9Q2M7vBAAzy1qE4djcR7dCc8CdhU6p86e9-jevWn1wOsPOm7Dw5zpu_CMz9n2JQfPXJMS0BPusQQfUeQfssnIus-G-FN7brFEfbEXjMD2ZodxVKKT0OJLZN5ZmLxm6yraA/s2566/20240304_115714.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2566" data-original-width="1495" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_566FpblNAf3W7S88L-DJstwN7zhh4V-28Ca0H8_pnc0_-jy_fM5x9kiP9Q2M7vBAAzy1qE4djcR7dCc8CdhU6p86e9-jevWn1wOsPOm7Dw5zpu_CMz9n2JQfPXJMS0BPusQQfUeQfssnIus-G-FN7brFEfbEXjMD2ZodxVKKT0OJLZN5ZmLxm6yraA/w233-h400/20240304_115714.jpg" width="233" /></a></div><div style="text-align: left;">The last walk was going to be Zeus' walk and with head collar on we set off up the track. I noticed he was scratching at his face and realised the head collar was twisted and rubbing on his face. I called him back to adjust it, as I did he reversed backwards and instantly was free. He legged it up past Plas Braich. My stomach churned over as I instantly envisaged all scenarios. This dog has NO recall and will chase livestock. Thankfully there was no one about and as I called him he stopped, but of course, he just stood there ... I turned back calling "this way," the term I use when changing direction on the walks. He followed and legged it past me to the entrance to Pen Y Braich. I got to our top gate and opened it ... nope he wasn't coming ... I phone Steve and told him to let the bitches out into the yard and I legged it over to the yard. Zeus was still by Pen Y Braich. Sammi and Beti legged it into the contained top field and yes ... Zeus ran back and ran up and down the fence with Beti. I ran to the top gate and closed it. It was at this point that my legs went to jelly and the implications of what could have happened really hit home.</div><div style="text-align: left;">After getting the girls into the house I took 5 to compose myself then walked up to the top gate thinking Zeus would come to go for his walk, nope he wasn't coming. I called him, nope he wasn't coming. He ran around the property, returning to the fence to the top field to look for Beti. I thought well, it's your choice, if you don't want to come I can't be arsed to persuade you. Leaving him out I went into the house, I left in the bottom field alone for about 10 mins or so peaking out now and then .. and where was he?
