Two Weeks

Over the next 2 weeks I have 4 shows coming up, the heartbreak of loss still haunts me and I have a very scary anniversary to face. (at Anglesey show.) I also have fantastic memories of Merioneth 2012 & 2013 which this year may be quite emotional for me. All I ask of my friends who will be sharing these days with me is please lets make it a happy time, lets not dwell on or talk about the past. What ever the weather - lets just have fun together!

Day 21

Things are finally a little calmer and Loki has eaten his meal tonight. I wouldn't even dream of trying the boys with Sammi  yet, but at least they are less stressed now. Loki has numerous shows coming up over the next 2 weeks and we really need to get some meals into him now! I may leave Nico in the utility room tonight, shame really I quite liked having him by my side at night, but I guess the old man needs priority (Finlay not Steve!!!!!!!)

To be honest Finlay is not having a great day, a bit wobbly and more vacant than usual, but he did eat his meal tonight. (though not his breakfast) As I've said he's been blank with me for a long time, but he's the same with Steve today too, and Gail came to visit, did he even notice? I just don't understand this vacancy, unless there was some brain damage during that odd episode he had last September.
This blog is so great for me for reference, and looking back Sammi was away from the boys till day 30 day during her last season. An average season is 21 days with bitches usually mated 10 -14 days in. Sammi was mated at 18 days and her seasons, if the last one is anything to go by, will be longer. Anyway as with every living creature their are no hard and fast rules and we now must take it day by day and re introduce her to Loki when we are 100% sure that things have settled.

Seven Days On

Mikey putting up with a young Sammi!
Not the best sleep again last night, I guess today is going to be yet another difficult day. I can't help but relive in my mind the events of a week ago. I'm trying not to focus on the time of day but can't help myself really. As I said to a friend in an e.mail yesterday, thank god for the others. It doesn't easy the pain, but when you have others you have to get up in the morning, you have to feed them and give them quality time...Without them I think I'd just give up!
Nico got to sleep in the bedroom again last night, it's been three nights now. I have to keep my hand in the bed , if it dares fall to the side I find a big black head resting in it or nuzzling into it. He loves it in the bedroom and is peaceful and quiet, but he will not use Finlay's bed and sleeps on the rug next to me. I've told him Finlay's bed is clean but he insists he can smell poo! Finlay seems ok on the bed in the middle room, and I must admit it is nice to not wake up at 3am to the smell of poo!
I found myself extremely shattered last night, though I'd tried to rest on Sunday I guess Saturday really caught up with me. Hadn't felt like that in a while, you know so tired you feel sick, and I didn't drive a mile on Saturday! Sometimes I do feel sorry for myself. I have no energy, I've put on so much weigh due to lack exercise and comfort eating. I have shows coming up now and I know it's really going to affect me. I have to plan my life differently, make sure there is always a second driver, make sure their are rest hours and then rest days in between etc. But then I give myself a wake up call, I'm still here to tell the tale, two thirds of people who have a bleed/aneurysm are not. Recovery is slow, it takes years, but I'm getting there and if all the side affects I'm left with are some memory loss and fatigue then I really shouldn't complain should I!
Having researched "Ole" for months I'm now doing everything "arse about tit" (sorry) and distracting myself by researching Merlot. I've never used a dog having only had 5 mins to look at his pedigree and look at the dog before. Of course I knew of him, but knew nothing about him really. The inbreeding coefficient value of this mating is 5.6%, as apposed to Ole x Sammi which would have been 4.4% .Obviously the lower the better with the breed target being 3.2% . But 5.6% is quite acceptable and there is only one dog doubled up on within 5 generations and actually he is in the 5th generation, it just had to be Saber Vom Steffen Haus didn't it - Kai's grandad!
So my opinion on Merlot - He's a little short in body length which makes his overline look more extreme in stance, but it's not naturally. Similar to Dexi and Kai I suppose. Anyway Sammi has body length and so do her parents so that should not be a problem. He's not over angulated like Nico is, which is good, especially these day. His colour is amazing - the photo doesn't do justice, he's so so red and has a huge coat. He hasn't produced L/c yet but is not tested. His head is similar shaped to the Blanik boys, like Louis and Mikey, being shorter in muzzle than the Conbhairean boys, but the markings and slightly light eye give him a look of Loki with a soft kind expression.  I've not seen him move to be able to comment, but to be 2015's Youth Sieger he must have been pretty impressive on the move too.
So now here's hoping she has taken and I'll now be looking for some nice wine names starting with the letter "J!"

Hell At Home

It was about 8.30pm when we finally made it home last night. Due to talking and not listening to the sat nav we did actually have a little detour, and of course a stop for fish and chips on route. It had been a long day for Sammi too so I treated her to sausage and chips too .. well just a few of my chips! She wasn't keen on the batter from the fish, but the rest went down well.
Even with Sammi away the boys had been unsettled and it only escalated when she got home! Loki's high pitch yap is somewhat piercing, but Nico was in such a state last night that I decided to take him to the bedroom over night. I so fear torsion when they get like this. In fairness we had a reasonably calm night, but I couldn't get my thoughts off that poor white GSD that had been found clinging to life dumped in rubbish, and covered in an old carpet on a South Wales Mountain. Sometimes the human race disgusts me, there simply is no excuse. There are ALWAYS alternatives! I make no apology for posting the picture, I'm sorry if it upsets, but someone somewhere will know this dog. His owners, or whoever did this must be found and prosecuted.
Loki is now in the kennel, I hate it, but it's the safest option. I'll swap in a bit and put Sammi in there. She seems to mind less than him. Hopefully within a few days things will quieten down and we can have some normality.
Nico can sleep with us again tonight if it helps keep him calm, though I don't think Finlay will be best pleased. What I would give now to be woken by Mikey's singing at 3am and 5am and .... God we are missing that boy.

The Best Laid Plans Eh!

Well yesterday was the big day. A friend pick me up at 8.30am and we were off to Malvern to take Sammi to meet Ole. It was almost 4 hours later when we stood on the doorstep at "Videx."  A cuppa and a chat was most welcome before we went to get on with the things.
Sammi had a run around the huge garden, but no wee!  Ole came out, he'd blown all his coat but still looked amazing. He totally ignored Sammi and went hoovering round the garden, his owner told me, he's looking for her wee. We all know a bitches wee can tell a dog so much .. but like a lot of bitches Sammi doesn't like to wee away from home! Ole took no interest in her at all and decided to go and splash about in his padding pool! My heart sank, but I did giggle at his behaviour.
Eventually the boy decided to come over and see what was going on, and it was like someone had flicked a switch .. from then on he was totally focused on the job in hand, but Sammi really didn't like him! Owning stud dogs I will not allow them to be bitten so I was happy for Sammi to wear a muzzle, but by now she was like a combination of a snapping crocodile and bucking bronco and just wasn't having it! David suggested it was my fault, he said "the bitch is so obsessed with you she's not letting nature take it's course!" So I went out of her eye line. but really as she knew I was there it didn't seem to get any better! After about an hour with no success it was decided to give both a break and have another cuppa!
So on to part two ... Sammi went out .. yes she had a wee! Ole came out and went straight to the wee, and immediately focused. Sammi still didn't like him and growled and snarled somehow managing to chuck him off or push him out (if you get my meaning) with every attempt. I could feel myself getting disheartened. David commented on her ridiculous strength and joked that I should walk her on those mountains a little less. I wanted this so much but I was starting to feel it was not going to happen so I said, listen your boy is getting tired, it's your call. They gave it another 10 mins before deciding to call it a day. Seriously my heart sank, but then David said, would you like to see our other boy Merlot? Well yeah, I guess and I did know of the dog through his reputation.
First things first and I had a look at his pedigree before then decided I'd see the dog. Merlot was a lovely boy, a deep deep red tan and a huge coat. About the same size as Ole, maybe just a tad taller. Not dissimilar to Loki somehow, but more medium size and shorter coupled. So what were my alternatives? I used Merlot, I go away with nothing and wait till the next season to try again, I find another dog and travel again tomorrow, and who would let me use their dog at such short notice? Merlot is no second rate dog, he was last years British Youth Sieger, his pedigree is super, his health grades excellent .. sod it we'll give it a go.
When Merlot met Sammi ...
The boy ran over to greet her, she grumbled once ... he then went off to find her wee, came back, had one attempt, jumped off and put his face right in my face. I can only think now he said .. "watch this" ... She stood still, no biting, no growling no bucking, he mated her, they tied for a romantic 30+ mins .. romantic because he kissed her ears for most of that time and she didn't growl once. So after 2 hours of trying with Ole and Sammi objecting to it all, she had allowed Merlot to mated her in 5 mins and she didn't complain the once! Am I disappointed? Yes of course, a little. I had set my heart on Ole, but it was not meant to be .. and maybe in this case as regards to Merlot it was meant to be, well Sammi thinks so anyway!!!!!
The photos are of a 12 and a half month old Merlot winning his class and becoming the British Youth Sieger of 2015.

Gary Barlow - Let Me Go

Birthday Walks

Sadly having to revamp my walks now. It feels so odd to walk 2 dogs. Though Ziva loved her walk with her cherished adopted son Loki, and Tali loved a walk without Ziva! Poor Sammi was not impressed on going out with the grannies. Nico and Jezi as always together and Finn as ever was oblivious to it all!
It was really hard to go back up there today, but I did it and bawled my eyes out for most of the first walk. Through tears I called out his name several times and asked someone/something who I can't imagine is there why the hell they found it necessary to take him away from me so soon. To make matters worse the CD on in the van is still the Gary Barlow one .. the track playing had me in pieces. I know not all the lyrics are apt, but my god most of it was close to home.

"Fly high and let me go
That sky will save your soul
When you pass by then you'll know
That this is gonna take a bit of getting used to but I know what's right for you
Let me go"

Happy Birthday Girls

Asha's daughters are 5 years old today
very different girls in looks and character.
Both adorable in their own right.
Ziva and Jezi
Blanik Hippy and Blanik Hettie

Both usually carry their mother's thick coats, passed down through her sire Kai. Ziva is out of coat right now and Jezi just starting to throw hers.
I have already received a photo of our little heart-breaker Danni
Life is so good for her!
I'm sure there will be photos of Lexi on Linda's blog later in the day ..
Happy Birthday Danni
