Mixed Emotions

Louis had his check-up today. His weight is the same as it was last month and he was so pleased to be at the vets that he pinched my bottom. Over the years I've suffered greatly from Louis Love Bites but this one was a first, even for me! Anyway, plenty of padding there so maybe not a bruise this time. To be honest who cares anyway, I'm my eyes he can do no wrong!

Louis has been prescribed another months course of oxycare as the vet is as nervous about taking him off them as we are...maybe next month. It looks likely that he will need b12 injections permanently, well at least for the foreseeable future anyway. Again, if it helps him...who cares? I'll give him anything he needs to keep him well and happy!

Finlay was also having a check-up today. I have seen a difference in him this year, he seemd to have aged and slowed down a lot. I thought maybe he was older than we originally thought, but decided for peace of mind to have him checked over. The vet came to the conclusion that he was less than 10 years old, which is great, but sadly it seems he has a slow heartbeat and a marginally enlarged spleen. So what does she suggest we do now? Well initially, nothing! We will need to monitor him carefully over the next month or two and if there is any change then he will need blood tests to determine what's going on. My plan of action is to plod on as normal and make sure he enjoys his life. I will not be wrapping him up in cotton wool, but I will not be taking him on a marathon hike in the mountain again either. Normality and fun are the order of the day.

P.S - Finlay was very pleased that the Doggy Doctor says he's not fat and that I'm not to call him fat boy anymore!!! (we'll see!)

Staff Attack!

Not the best of walks today, we went to the lake at Cwm Dulyn with Kiri and Kai. As we arrived a Husky and a rather large Staffie(!!!) came over the wall from the other side of the lake, the Staffie immediately attacked Kai. Kai slipped his collar and fought back, to be honest what else could he do? Thank God Gail, my friend, had hold of Kiri....could have all been so much worse if he'd got hold of the old lady. The owner and her friends were too busy swaning around in their bikinis to come and get the dogs, and I did get the brunt of her tongue. Though I must admit, that without being personal, (which she was) I gave as good as I got. Luckily Kai is a big lad with a huge coat, so he's Ok. Must admit I was a bit shaken and can't believe why she didn't realise it was her fault. Our dogs were with us and we had hold of both of them. Accidents happen, all I needed was an apology. I don't discriminate, I like Staffies, (even big ones) but people should be aware of what they have and the capability's of their dogs!

We had a great days showing today at NWA open breed show.Mikey 1st PGD, Best Male and Reserve Best in Show, Asha 1st limit bitch and reserve best bitch. Tali was 2nd in Open bitch to the BIS winner, The beautiful Zakasia Evita Kai, 1st open dog and Reserve best male, Kiri 2nd in veteran bitch.

Arko, Louis' brother also won Veteran dog and went on to win Best Veteran in show and Maya won Novice bitch. Not a bad day for the Blanik show team!! Of course if Louis' been there he'd have wiped the floor with all of them...lol

Someone's Feeing Sorry For Himself

Poor Mikey Mikey's got a poorly back leg! Glad now we had him hip scored or I would have been paranoid. (as I am!) He seems Ok most of the time, but screams and limps now and again. Maybe a little rest will do the trick!
