In a normal 6 month cycle bitches lose their coats 4 months after a season, despite old wives tales it has nothing to do with the weather, it is purely hormonal. Having taken a month or more to lose it, they will come in season and the coat will return to its glorious self towards the end of the season. Spayed females, like males obviously do it differently and to be honest I've never really considered what triggers the moult.
Siska came in season on the 2nd of November, it had been 8 months since her previous season, which was on the 6th of March. Looking back at photos Siska looked in perfect condition at the beginning of June (three months after her season) but she really was looking tatty by mid to the end of July, so even though she has her season every 7 - 8 months she still moults 4 months after a season. So, four months since November is March, and Crufts is on the 9th of March. She currently looks fantastic, in full bloom, but we have a month to go and all I can do is pray she hangs on to her glamour. Though to be fair I have always managed to show Siska out of coat as she never looks awful, but it would be good if she did hang on to a full coat just a week or so over schedule .... but of course there's nothing I can do about it, what will be, will be ..
