Ears

With teething often comes weak ears. At this age it's not really much to worry about and having plenty to chew helps. Of course soft ears are often genetic, but it would have been a shock to find any ear weakness in this litter as we've doubled up on strong ears. Once Kaiah's ears were up they stayed up, and in times when some studs who produce soft ears continue to be used with predictable consequences, Fransisco is a huge asset to the breed. Sisco progeny are renowned for strong ears, ears which go up very early ... in both our litters to him, as predicted by Joe they certainly did have strong little ears. (little Beth was the first in the K litter at about 5 weeks, I don't remember which of the L litter was first - was it Siska?)
I don't recall either that any of the K litters ears went down after 4 months, it'll be interesting to see if the L litter are the same. From memory, I think Sammi's stayed up from about 4 months too .. the H litter girls of course were a different story .. I think Jezi was almost 6 months when they finally stayed up and Ziva's took ages to strengthen. Thinking back, Asha and Mikey's ears were all over the place too - but Tali had erect ears early on. I guess as long as they are up and down then we shouldn't worry, but we do and it does give peace of mind when they are up and strong early on. After all erect ears are a strong characteristic of the breed, for me with soft ears the whole expression of the breed is lost.
